The Position: Reforestation Camp Chef

Type: Seasonal

Reports To: Reforestation Camp Supervisor

  • Spectrum Camps are remote bush camps that have a kitchen with meals provided, dining tents, bathrooms, shower facilities, first aid rooms, drinking water and Starlink internet access.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and delegate tasks to assistant chefs under the direction of the camp supervisor.
  • Ensure a safe and productive working environment for all employees.
  • Maintain the kitchen, including accommodating allergies and dietary restrictions, shopping and submitting food orders to suppliers, and budget tracking.
  • Implement the food safety management plan, maintain kitchen area, dining area and storage area in a clean and tidy condition that promotes good safety practices and is in compliance with health regulations.
  • Monitor and record fridge and food temperatures, and complete area inspections ensuring OH&S regulation.
  • Package and secure kitchen for transport between camp locations.
  • Organization of equipment before, during and after shifts will be required.
  • Safely operate pick-up trucks on resource roads.
  • Other duties as required.

Certifications & Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) season of experience cooking in a tree planting camp.
  • Experience with food budgets and ordering from suppliers.
  • Commitment to spring and summer plant (Early May to mid-August).
  • Valid 5 BC Class 5 Driver’s License and a current Driver’s Abstract.
  • Camp Chefs are responsible for bringing their own sleeping accommodation (e.g. tent, trailer), personal items including clothing, footwear, and toiletries. Planting equipment will be available for purchase.
  • Experience driving pick-up trucks and 5-ton box trucks.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to carry 50+ pounds.
  • Willingness to work, enjoy, and live in a remote setting.
  • B.C. Intermediate or Advanced First Aid certification, or equivalent, is considered an asset.
  • English language proficiency (read, write, oral comprehension).
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required for safety sensitive positions including those with driving responsibilities.
